Most People Download Zero Apps

Why?

Big Question

Are you still learning App Design? Stop!

Junior UX designers often think they should focus on mobile apps since everyone uses their phones.

However, most people only use a few social media apps and rarely download new ones.

But why?

According to TechCrunch, people in the US don’t download any new apps.

We frequently use the same 10-12 apps and rely more on the web for daily tasks.

What to do?

For UX designers aiming to excel in 2024, showcasing both app and web designs in your portfolio is key.

Web design is crucial, as creating apps can be costly and many businesses don’t need them.

But every business needs a website.

I have a couple of courses on web design that 6000 people are already learning from and their work went from MEH to AWESOME in a month!

alexaknyc: It is tough to design a website this is why juniors go for apps only. It’s a huge mistake. I usually start from the hard part - website, then responsive view website, and at the end I do an app. Not every business will need an app but it is good addition for portfolio purposes only. I learnt a lot of from your courses. Btw, your books are passed via pdf from one person to the other. I scolded these people since they were openly talking about you in UX group on Facebook and violating copyrights. A course about design ethics is needed.

Michal Malewicz: Yeah - rwd + web is the better way to start because you can easily learn a tiny bit of frontend (or even framer/webflow) and start freelancing if nobody hires you. That just gives you a lot more options. And yeah - some old versions of the books were leaked but we've updated them all a couple of times since then - that's the thing to be expected - people loose ethics and run their rat race hoping for the best spot. Luckily most of those people won't even make it in the industry because they look for cheap, quick fixes, not actually learning fundamentals.

uiux_horizon: What about app developers

Michal Malewicz: apps are difficult and expensive to code so still most developers do web.

• wmz.design: Most new designers just like to follow the herd. This stat will surely give them nightmares

Michal Malewicz: That's why I do what I do. Going against the trend.
