5 Great AI Coding Tools

If you are starting vibe coding

main image

Web development has seen an enormous and robust growth and development ever since the COVID era. From entire coding teams handling complex operations thanks to WFH policies, to the rise of no-code tools like Webflow and Framer, coding hasn’t been the same.

With this growth came new(er) trends and ideas, one of which intermixed AI and coding, giving rise to “Vibe Coding”.

“Vibe coding” is the AI-first way of building software, with tools like Bolt, Lovable, etc. Instead of writing every line of code yourself, you’re guiding an AI to do it for you, often using natural language, visuals, or sometimes zero code. It’s like coding by feel or flow, without strict logic and structure.

It helped even non-tech (read: code) savvy people the freedom and ability to help and design their visions, without an iota of coding knowledge, and has changed the landscape forever.

Here is a list of 5 popular and better AI Code tools to help you “vibe”.

1) Github Copilot

Github is literally the Library of Alexandria for software developers, and an AI Coding tool harnessing its vast wealth of code repository, makes it an ideal choice for people who have a basic know-how of actual web development.

Github’s collaboration with OpenAI in crafting this tool also means you can integrate ChatGPT with it, making it even more powerful, and not to forget, almost every IDE can integrate Github in itself, which is a formidable edge over others.

Copilot’s features like code suggestions/explanations, writing unit tests, suggesting changes to pull requests, and even chatting with you about your repo make it indeed a copilot in your coding aerobatics.

2) Bolt

Bolt is one of the most prominent vibe coding tools right now in the market. Thanks to its beginner-focused branding and marketing, it has quickly become a go-to tool for many vibe coders.

bolt-new

It is a browser-based, full-stack app builder aiming at rapid prototyping and development. You don’t need to worry about setting up a backend, figuring out routes, or deploying; Bolt takes care of everything. You can also chat with their AI to make it understand your needs better.

Bolt works on a “token-based” system; you get 150K tokens for daily usage, capped at 1M/month. You can prompt around 5 times with 150K tokens (as I found in my usage), which means you get around a week of free usage each month, furthermore requires a Pro plan.

Don’t worry, you can still edit your code in their native code editor and make changes as you wish, if you have the required coding knowledge. Something that Lovable doesn’t offer in its free plan.

Bolt is ideal for founders, indie hackers, or weekend coders as the AI turns your ideas into deployable code instantly for you to test and tweak.

3) Lovable

Lovable is just like chatting with a designer who can also code. You tell it what you want, and it builds the UI, backend, and can even attach backend databases like Supabase.

You can tweak and iterate through its chat feature, and even upload your Figma designs to turn them into a solid working code, ready for prototyping.

Lovable

Lovable, just like Bolt, works on a “credit-based” system offering the same number of (approx) prompts, five daily. There is a cap of 30 credits each month, and additional usage requires a subscription plan.

From my experience, Lovable has produced better results for the same ideas, I tested in Bolt alongside. The UI was cleaner and more modern, with better logic and layout, and the AI was less “stubborn”.

You can even edit components’ typography, colors of the elements inside the live preview window, without changing any code or using a token.

Lovable’s paywalling their code editor and offering only 6 days of free usage a month makes it a little more conservative, but it still is a solid AI coding tool aimed at product designers/managers, non-technical founders, and hobbyist coders.

4) Uizard

Uizard is an AI-powered design tool built for people who aren’t professional designers, but still want to create apps or websites. It makes the whole process super simple.

You can even jot something on paper, take a photo, and Uizard will turn it into a working digital prototype. Yes.

With its drag-and-drop interface, anyone can build clean, modern designs without needing a background in UI or UX. It’s perfect for quickly bringing ideas to life, whether you’re a founder, product manager, or just experimenting. Uizard is basically Canva on Steroids.

5) Cursor

Cursor is more focused on people who have a sizeable experience in both manual and AI coding, and are familiar with the tools listed above, alongside VS Code. If you are a professional developer, you might be looking at Cursor more than the ones aforementioned.

cursor

It is a solid alternative for Copilot as it offers professional developers a robust AI coding IDE, think of libraries, terminals, dependencies, and yes, you can utilise (integrate) GitHub alongside it.

Cursor offers multiple coding models for you to choose from, offers more bang-for-buck (if you are a skilled prompter), and is a juggernaut in terms of practicality if you compare it to tools focused on non-coders.

Epilogue

We are witnessing a tech (re)evolution where building products is no longer reserved for a “chosen elite”. The rise of AI-powered tools like Cursor, Lovable, etc, is redefining how we turn ideas into products.

These tools might seem scary (and rightfully so) and career-ending at a glance, but the invention of the digital camera did not make artists jobless.

Whether you’re a seasoned developer or someone just trying to bring an idea to life, these tools make you work alongside AI, not to replace you, but to make your life a tad bit easier.

**Stay tuned, we are going to have some big changes on the platform, and would explore the world AI in great depths :)
